Purpose & History

Stone Tiger was created in 2020 by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, Cory Taylor and award-winning producer, Darin Nellis. The company was created to expand the documentary film work begun by Taylor and Nellis under the auspices of Stone Tiger’s non-profit sister company, Agora Productions, into new areas of narrative film and television.

Stone Tiger’s first production is a TV travel series called Calitopia that will be released in 2021. Previous projects produced by Taylor and Nellis include award winning documentaries about John F. Kennedy, the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, 13 Families - Life After Columbine (1999 shootings) and many others (see Previous Work or go to www.agoraproductions.org).

The Origin of Stone Tiger

The name Stone Tiger comes from an old Buddhist parable. In the parable General Li Kuang pursues a tiger that has killed his mother. When he finds the tiger crouching in a clump of grass he shoots and hits it with an arrow. When he runs up to the tiger to verify his kill, he discovers that his arrow has instead hit and penetrated a large stone all the way up to the arrow’s feathers. Due to his bravery and single-minded determination, resulting in the impossible feat of shooting an arrow through a stone, General Li Kuang is thereafter known as "General Stone Tiger."
